COOPERATING WITH EUROPE FOR GREEN MANUFACTURING TECHNOLOGIES
COOPERATING WITH EUROPE FOR GREEN MANUFACTURING TECHNOLOGIES

EU-ASEAN Hybrid Conference on Greentech

Binh Duong, March 23, 2021

The main conference event built on this and provides participants with complementary opportunities in two 2-hour plenary sessions (morning and afternoon). Meet leading policy representatives of the European Commission, Vietnam, Binh Duong Province and ASEAN neighbors to learn about strategies for Green Growth, hear about best practice examples of successful green innovators and state-of-the-art in innovative green technologies and get inspired by complementary discourses on the Green Deal, Europe’s new strategy for green growth, and on opportunities to innovate beyond borders in ASEAN-wide green technology based cooperation.

The Vice Chairman of Binh Duong Provincial People’s Committee gave a speech at the conference: “In 2021, Intelligent Community Forum – ICF announced that Binh Duong was once again honored in the top 21 cities with typical smart city development strategies. This is the third consecutive time Binh Duong has received this award. The province continues to promote the continuous development of the city, with major projects such as the World Trade Center in Binh Duong New City (World Trade Center – Binh Duong New city) and the Science and Technology Industrial Park; pay attention to promote digital transformation, smart production and create conditions for domestic enterprises to step by step access advanced technology, join the global value chain; to attach importance to building and developing an innovative start-up ecosystem, strengthening the connection between the Triple helix model of innovation (University-Industry-Government). In that trend, Binh Duong province is constantly promoting the role of connecting the key economic region of the South as well as promoting international connectivity through organizing regional and global conferences and seminars.”

At the conference, Dr. Nguyen Viet Long – Director of Department of Science & Technology said: “Infrastructure plays a very important role in bringing manufacturing technology to Vietnam, attracting foreign businesses, especially Europe. Here, infrastructure is not only transport infrastructure but also means human resources. Investing in connected infrastructure and platforms is inevitable to attract technology, leading to elevation of both supply and manufacturing chains. In which, the State plays the role of the representative, creating an incentive mechanism to promote the application of the Triple helix model of innovation (University-Industry-Government), with the orientation of taking business as the focus.

The second problem in developing technology in Vietnam is to create a motivation for businesses to understand the importance of innovation. But the infrastructure system is the means to attract foreign businesses, update new technology, for domestic enterprises to strive to improve, and to meet world standards and become suppliers. . WTC Binh Duong New City is also one of the examples in creating a driving force, with the role of creating opportunities to access technology vs connecting supply chains, connecting domestic and foreign businesses. ”

Through the European Green Deal, the EU recognises that action on climate change and the environment is an urgent priority. Supported by investments in green technologies, sustainable solutions and innovative businesses, the Green Deal is the new EU growth strategy. Above all, it sets a path for sustainable transition that is just and socially fair. With the involvement and commitment of everyone crucial to its success, the transformative initiative will leave no individual or region behind. The EU therefore supports ASEAN and its Member States with initiatives related to climate change resilience and adaptation, environmental conservation, including protecting biodiversity, and disaster preparedness and response.

During the conference, from the point of view of Prof.Tan Beng Hee Reginald – Executive Director Science and Engineering Research Council, Binh Duong is the next destination for green technology transfer.

To close the conference, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation Thailand Songsivilai said: “It was an effective conference on sustainable development.  I believe that we can achieve this goal through cooperation and development between us.  I wish you well and see you next time “.  Mr. Hans Farnhammer, Head of Cooperation, EU Delegation to Indonesia, Brunei, Darussalam and ASEAN emphasized that green production is the core for sustainable development and also hopes that this program will be the foundation for the next step.
